Healthcare Project Conclusion
To end this project on a positive note. I decided to use SQL to determine how many patients came into the hospital and stayed less time than anticipated. To determine this, instead of using a sub query I used a CTE to obtain this list of hospital success stories! Over 60% of patients admitted leave earlier than expected.
Due to my findings, I was able to show the hospital how effectively, efficiently, and ethically they operate. As stated above the hospital bed is the hospital’s one limiting resource. In order to give more accurate estimates and keep better records, the hospital needs to continuously forecast using the examples above. If 60% of the patients are leaving earlier than anticipated, the hospital could be projecting to not have a bed in time for a procedure and schedule it too far out. Therefore, the inventory may show there will be no beds available when in fact there will be and there may not be enough time to fill them. With more accurate information, the hospital can treat more patients and generate more revenue by performing more operations.
